Safety pins and toddler clothes?

I like to buy my sons pants a few sizes larger so he can wear them longer. He is 18 months and now he is walking and his pants are too long and won’t stay rolled up. I was wondering if anyone has had any negative experience with using safety pins. I did consider hemming the pants but I am worried it will ruin the pants for when he grows into them. Thanks

You have to be careful with safety pins. I would roll them and place a couple stitches on either side of each leg just to tack it in place.
That is what we used to fasten diapers, only larger – diaper pins.
A couple options:
Turn up (to the inside) and stitch in the side seams where the stitching will not be noticeable. You will need to take care when putting on the pants so his feet don’t get caught in the loose hem.
Another thought, fold them so they look like the “zip off” small/pants. Then when he gets taller, remove the stitching. Choose how much shorter they need to be and fold up inside the pant leg. Stitch around about an inch, then fold the bottom back down. You will have a tuck that looks like a zip off leg,
Sorry this isnt an answer but a comment to Pattiann. Isnt it incredible that our mothers used to use PINS to fasten our diapers? And you are right they were some mighty huge pins! Can you imagine putting something that long and pointy and sharp that close to that area on a baby? If a parent did it today it would be considered child endangerment. Luckily by the time my kids were born they had invented the velcro type fasteners. And thank God they are both long out of diapers now. thanks for the memories and the chuckle.
